Lt Gen Raheel Sharif as New Army Chief of Pakistan - Lieutenant General Raheel Sharif
Pics, Biodate and Biography

The Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army, (reporting name: COAS), is the four-star rank appointment in the Pakistan Army, held by the senior four-star rank officer appointed by the President of Pakistan, on a summary sent by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The Chief of Army Staff post has historically been vested with proportionately more powers because of the recurrent military takeovers in the country. It is the highest and most prestigious four-star assignment, unless the four-star officer is appointed as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Pakistan Armed Forces. The appointment is in principle for three years subject to extensions granted by The President of Pakistan on recommendation from The Prime Minister of Pakistan. The appointment is vested with complete operational, training and logistics commands unlike the pattern followed in Western Commands where the Chief of Army Staff is the training and logistics chief while operational command rests with the Ministry of Defense. The current Chief of Army Staff is General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The COAS operates from Army Combatant General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the twin city of the capital Islamabad. Under the Constitution of 1973 presently in vogue, the Chief of Army Staff is subordinate to the Defense Minister of Pakistan, Secretary General/Secretary Defense and reports directly to the civilian leadership.

The President has appointed Lieutenant General Raheel Sharif as new chief of army staff and Lieutenant General Rashid Mehmoud as new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
The president has made the appointments on the advice of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Both the lieutenant generals will be promoted as four star general on Friday as they take charge of their offices.
Notification in this regard has been issued. General Raheel Sharif will be 15th army chief who has served in Pakistan Army on various positions.
He will take charge from outgoing Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Friday at a ceremony at general headquarters‚ Rawalpindi. General Raheel Sharif is now working as Inspector General Training and Evaluation of Pakistan Army while General Rashid Mehmoud is currently working as chief of general staff.

Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, who has to make a final decision regarding the appointments of Pakistan’s new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) shortly, held meetings separately with the two Lieutenant Generals Rashid Mahmood and Raheel Sharif on Wednesday early morning here, CNews reported.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to name Lt. Gen. Raheel Sharif as the new Chief of Army Staff while Lt. Gen. Rashid Mehmood likely to be appointed as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, citing well placed sources, CNews reported on Wednesday.
The outgoing Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani will retire from his powerful military post on November 28 (tomorrow).  Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is hosting a farewell dinner in the honour of Gen. Kayani tonight.
